Kids grow so darned fast! Have you ever wondered what to do with your old, outdated car seats? Find out more about car seat recycling programs in Calgary.
Each year, over 190,000 car seats are thrown into Canadian landfills, but luckily in Calgary we have a greener, more eco-friendly option.
For more than 4 years, Kidseat Recyclers has been keeping car seats out of Calgary landfills and recycling nearly every car seat component including metal, plastic and any other usable parts including the straps and buckles. Kidseat Recyclers is the first car seat recycling program of its kind in Alberta focused specifically on keeping the thousands upon thousands of car seats that are thrown away every year out of the landfills.
How it Works:
1. Remove all materials from the car seat, including the fabric and straps. You can either discard them or check the Kidseat Recycler’s website for metal and strap recycling facilities around Canada.
2. Bring your expired car seat to Urban Thrift and pay the mandatory $10 recycling fee to cover KidSeat Recyclers car seat recycling levy.
3. Get a $10 store credit from Urban Thrift to spend in store on your next visit of $40 or more (to offset the recycling levy).
For more than a year, Urban Thrift has been a proud partner and Calgary car seat recycling drop-off location. To date, we’ve estimate that we’ve collected over 250 car seats and helped keep hundreds of pounds of bulky trash out of Calgary landfills.
